2008 Biggest Year Yet For European Harley-Davidson Riders
14 March 2008 - News & Reviews - Industry News
Harley-Davidson Europe announces a host of exciting events for 2008 to celebrate 105th anniversary of Harley-Davidson and 25th anniversary of the Harley Owners Group.

Harley-Davidson riders from across Europe and beyond are getting ready for the biggest ever year of Harley events in the company's 105-year history. Not only is 2008 Harley's 105th year, it is also the 25th anniversary of the Harley Owners Group (HOG) the world's largest and most successful Harley owners club, with over a million members worldwide and more than 100,000 members in Europe.

The event season will kick off in earnest at Grimaud, in the chic Cote D'Azur resort of Golfe de St.Tropez from 22 - 25 May with the second annual Harley-Davidson Euro Festival. There will be a laid back vibe at this increasingly popular beachfront event in the Harley calendar. Over 10,000 Harley devotees attended the 2007 edition of this event, and in 2008 a big increase is anticipated to soak up the resort atmosphere, listen to some great music on the beach stage and chill out at the many nightclubs and restaurants.

Next on the Harley agenda is a new event, Ireland Bike Weekend at Killarney on the 6-8 June. Killarney was such a popular venue for the 2006 European H.O.G. Rally that it is now an annual event on the Harley calendar, featuring great music, a relaxed atmosphere and all the famous 'craic' that this area of Ireland has to offer.

The Harley-Davidson show then moves to mainland Europe - first stop Germany. From 20 June to 22 June, Hamburg will host around 50,000 bikers and around 700,000 visitors for the annual Hamburg Harley Days festival. Originally planned as a one-off event to celebrate 100 years of Harley-Davidson in 2003, Hamburg Harley Days proved to be so popular it is now one of the biggest annual events in the Harley-Davidson calendar.

Minehead in South West England is next to host a major Harley-Davidson event with around 5,000 guests set to descend on this beautiful part of England between the 4-6 July to party at the UK 105th Harley-Davidson Anniversary Celebration.

Brand new on the calendar for 2008 is the first Barcelona Harley Days from 10-13 July. Set to be a major urban showcase for Harley-Davidson, and the official 105th Anniversary celebration for Europe, this event is set to be a massive draw for Harley riders across Europe. There are plans for this event to become an annual fixture as the Catalan capital is such a firm favourite among Harley-Davidson riders.

Also new on the calendar, Scandinavian Bike Week is set to roar through Roskilde, Denmark this summer. Designed as a gathering place for the massive numbers of Harley riders in northern Europe, between 14-16 August, some 25,000 people are expected to enjoy all the distinctive Scandinavian flavour of this celebration of all things Harley-Davidson.

For the 11th year in succession, Faaker See in Austria will once again play host to Europe's biggest open and free biker festival, European Bike Week. From 2 September, riders from all over Europe and beyond will be turning the province of Carinthia into a massive celebration of the Harley-Davidson way of life. The event once again promises entertainment, events and activities to suit everyone, amid some of the most breathtaking scenery and riding roads to be found anywhere in the world.

Finally, the celebrations come to a climax between 25th and 27th September in the beautiful setting of sophisticated, chic Lake Garda, northern Italy, with the 17th Annual European H.O.G. Rally, the official European celebration of 25 years of the Harley Owners Group. This stunning location last hosted a major H.O.G. event in 1996 and proved a massive hit with all who attended. Around 15,000 people will enjoy 25 years and 105 years of H.O.G. and Harley-Davidson respectively.

At each event, visitors will experience a real carnival atmosphere with each event having its own unique flavour and atmosphere. There will be something for every taste, from stunt shows to live music, custom bike shows, to demo rides on the latest Harley-Davidson and Buell motorcycles - not to mention the company of fellow Harley riders.

One aspect guaranteed to be enjoyed by all are the celebrations that come with 105 years of Harley-Davidson and 25 years of H.O.G.  "2008 is going to be such an important year for us and for Harley-Davidson as a whole, and we are going to mark the occasion with our most exciting line-up of events yet," said Nigel Villiers, director of the Harley Owners Group Europe, Middle East & Africa. "Not only do we have a calendar of major celebrations, we are also providing 'reasons to ride' with a host of escorted Touring rides to a range of exotic destinations, a 'Ride Home' for European riders to Milwaukee for the 105th Anniversary celebrations and a host of smaller events throughout the riding season to celebrate ownership of the world's greatest motorcycle - Harley-Davidson" Review
